Magnolia help

My mother gave me a magnolia  tree several months ago.  The tree is about two years old.  It was healthy when she gave it to me.  It was grown in a pot.  We have repotted it, in ericaceous compost in a 12inc sq, 21inc deep.  Broken paving slabs for drainage.  The graft point in an inch above the surface.  Established leaves are now going yellow and brown.  New growth Is going brown.  Any advice would be imageimage

I grow several magnolia in containers and would not use pure ericaceous compost.  Add maybe 10 per cent ericaceous to a John Innes #3.  They prefer slightly acidic soil but can tolerate a wide range.  Pure ericaceous is just too acidic.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thank you very much Bob this is very useful.  We will change the soil as you suggest.
