Confused with clematis

I bought a clematis last year which was labelled as Warsawska Nike,so I was expecting a nice deep reddish flower, but the buds have just opened

Not that I'm complaining, but does anyone have any ideas on which one I actually have, or does the colour change with conditions, etc.??

Thank you in advance

Could be lots of things but maybe one of these - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=240

Lovely rich colour whatever it is.

It also looks like Etoile Violette.

  • Well, thank you both, when I looked at Obelixx suggestion I was sure it was that, then I looked at yours LB and think that's it too image

Think i'll just enjoy it, there's about 75 buds waiting to open, my most successful planting to date, whatever its name is image

Not Etoile Violette I think.  It's much darker, and the petals are rounder

The flowers do fade and change on clematis, so it could be hard to ID anyway. As long as you like it, Jason,  that's all that matters image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I agree.  Nothing like my Etoile Violette which is darker and usually has more than 4 tepals per flower.

I think your suggestion was closer to the mark obelixx. MY EV mostly seems to have five to a flower.

  • Thank you all, well I do definately like it, and as for the photo, I think in reality it looks a lot more blue than purple, and all have just 4 tepals
