How to store pumpkins for several months?

I have a Howden pumpkin maturing in the greenhouse... however, I would like to try and keep it for Halloween (for carving). Is it possible to store a pumpkin for this long? I have tried looking it up, but am finding a lot of websites are American and I live in England, it will not store outside well due to the climate difference.

Anyone know how to store pumpkins for 3 months?

It won't be ready for picking for a couple of months yet (I usually pick early September),

when its ready sever the stalk with about a foot of length attached to the pumpkin and put it somewhere sunny and warm (a greenhouse is great) for a week or so until the stalk goes hard then move it somewhere cool and dark and it should store well into next year if you want it too.

I've not grown sufficient to need to store for long but agree with tree hugger.

Another plot holder needs a wheelbarrow to take her pumpkins home, one at a time and stores them under her daughter's bed whilst she's away at uni..image... apparently they store for months if kept in a cool dark place.
