My grubby hands

I like getting my hands in the ground/compost and find gloves cumbersome. But it isn't easy to clean up afterwards. Can anyone recommend something strong that doesn't give me rhino skin. I'm thinking particularly of ingrained stains under nails and by side of nails.

I just use a nail brush to scrub my hands after working in the garden. It does make my skin rough though. I have heard that if you put hand cream on before doing any dirty work it helps in the cleaning afterwards. I've not tried it myself but I would think your trowel etc. might slip in your hands.
You're right Ladybird, the slightest hint of any wetness and you lose all grip as well.
I find by the time I've shampooed my hair and showered the rest of me there's not too much left. But maybe I'm just not too bothered what they look like , a good dollop of hand cream stops them getting too crispy-skinned but not just before the gardening
In the sticks near Peterborough
I just like getting mucky!
hi ladys I am going to look pansy to you girls but many years ago a mate I had allways used his hands and hot a scratch and got dermatituss (hope spelt ok) for lots of yeard I have used hospital gloves from a suppyler and cloth gloves for other jobs I also buy big rolls of hand towels and to clean my hands I have alo vera medicated hand wipes (so must be a softy) still never mind each to his or her own //
A good nail brush gets rid of the stuff between, under and around the nails. I don't use a hand cream, soft hands means too many thorns to pull out. Apparently scrapping soap under your nails before gardening works as well.
Maybe I use inferior brushes but they never help much. I will try the tip for soap under the nails beforehand- makes sense!
I sometimes add a drop of bleach to a bowl of water and keep my nails under the water while scrubbing. It also gets rid of ingrained dirt on fingers.
Now what makes me think you have your tongue firmly in the side of mouth Verdun??
