The Optunia I planted out a while ago has grown allot with winter protection and is forming multiple new pads! Thought I'd post this update as I know many people where interested at the time :)

Gosh Ryan. I wouldn't have thought that Opuntia would grow in our climate. Great stuff!

Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
  • There are a number of Opuntias and other cacti which are fully hardy here, especially in milder areas. I have a Maihuenia poeppigii which has lived permanently outdoors with no protection at all, even in the very severe winters we had a few years ago. Not surprising really, as some cacti live wild in Canada or 10,000 feet up in the Andes.

This one I found wild growing In France and I took a stem cutting.. Brought it back and it's rooted and I'm a big fan of it :)
