My problem is my lawns look very healthy from the side but when you actually stand on them you can see the grass roots are straw looking not green at all. I have replaced my mower and cut them on the highest setting of blade.Sometimes I do drop the blade down a notch because they look as if I haven,t cut the grass at all,The lawns are not very level they have dips in them where they seem to have sunk over the years,

spike it and top dress with a sharp sand/loam mix, brush it over afterwards so it goes down all the holes. once this hot weather has passed you might want to give it a feed.
