Succulents for shade
Hello all, talking to my neighbour today she asked me if she could plant sedums in a shady corner of her garden (which has a bad snail and slug problem). I told her that sedums really need full sun so probably weren't suitable. But she really likes, what she calls, succulents (I presume she is referring to the thickness of the sedum leaf?). Has anyone got any suggestions for something similar that will survive light shade and not be attractive to slugs and snails? Many thanks.

Some of the sedums will tolerate light shade.
I had assumed they needed full sun because of something in the back of my mind and, probably, because of the leaves, but thinking about it I have seen sedums doing fine in dappled or light shade under trees so you're right Ladybird. I don't have any sedums and don't know much about the varieties, are there any in particular that you would recommend for shade and are slugs likely to damage the leaves do you think?
Sedum spurium - the red stone crop (which has some German name I can't remember) is a good one. It makes a good ground cover and has pretty flowers. Sadly, few succulents are resistant to slugs and snails - as are a lot of garden plants so picking off the beasties will have to be carried out.
Thanks Ladybird4. I'll pass the information on to my neighbour.
