If its a moth orchid. to identify whats dead or live root. The live is usually silvery grey. The dead quite simple. Its brown and shrievled. Obviously cut that out. Repot it, don't water it for a couple of weeks. And keep it on a semi shaded windowsill until you see new growth.
In that case it hasn't any roots at all just a stump where I cut it thinking that it would be ok. Oooops not my best move for the poor thing. Looking at it today I think the best thing is for it to go onto the compost heap.

Yes picture please! Live roots arnt always silver, deep inside the pot they are green, I cut off the odd dead brown one.
