Hypericum

paulobryant says:

Hi can anyone tell me a large growing species  of Hypericum?

I would like to grow one 3m approx but can't find too much info. I have read in several places that some varieties can grow up to 12m!

Thanks for any info

  • Photo of one I have which is around nine feet. Only found out on this site two days ago that it is a Hypericum although I'm still not sure exactly which one, there are quite a few types; at least I know which ones it isn't. Suggestions were Hypericum Hidcote and Hypericum Calycinum. Hope this helps.

not calycinum, that's a low growing invasive ground cover plant

Prune the hypericum hard back every spring to contain size.

Mine goes from 8 inches in spring to 3 feet just now so reckon on 1 metre of growth and cut back accordingly.

  • Have now been looking at various sites on the net and it looks as if the one I have is Hypericum hircinum; seems to match with leaf and flower configuration. Can't recall where I got it from, I'm a plant and forget gardener.
