Clematis armandii
We have a Clematis Armandii growing in our SE garden and I wanted some advice on caring for it.
It is planted against fence (supported with cement posts) and the bottom half is full shade and moist sandy soil whilst the top gets almost full sun through the trellis that the leaves are tied to. It was planted as a 2 year old plant into the position last year and flowered well this Spring.
I didn't realise there were aphids for a little while but I have sprayed it and that seems to have worked. It is still looking a little sad, the leaves are curling up into each other and going yellow.
Is this because of the aphids, the wet weather or something else I should be doing?
Thanks

I just wondered if anyone can help with this?
Thanks
Have you had any strong winds lately? If they were very strong through the trellis they might affect it, as I've found it to be happiest on a warm wall.
Ah good to know. The lower half is against a fence and the upper half through the trellis. I wouldn't say we have had particularly bad weather and the weather is milder generally due to being in London.
Having looked online it looks like the aphids may have been to blame partly , I hope it won't stop it growing now.
Thanks
Even if it does it will recover. It can be a bit pernickety for the first year, but once it has a good root system you won't be able to stop it. It's a lovely plant.
I have two of these plants in my garden and I love them but both get yellowed leaves at the bottom which I end up cutting off each year as they are a bit unsightly! They are very fussy about wind and I lost one completely on an arch last year. I'm sure you'll see new shoots from it soon!
Great thanks. I wasn't sure if I could cut off the leaves at this point in the year or leave it but will give that a try!
Is there any other special care I should give it in terms of feeds etc?
Ah thank you! It is growing long a 8m fence so I am hopeful that it will stay managable. I just want lots more of the beautiful flowers!
Apparently tomato feed is also good for clematis and roses
