What's wrong with my ivy?

imageimage

My well established, mature ivy has patches  many of the leaves, with some looking as if they are burnt.  I can't see anything to cause this - can anyone help and advise what to do.  Thanks.

Hi Barnstar, I'm not sure there's that much wrong, especially as it's  a mature plant. I just remove any dead or damaged leaves on mine. It's normal on evergreens of any kind to shed some foliage, and often it's simply down to weather, and/or temperatures. A bit of damage by insects, pests etc is also common, but it's unlikely to trouble a mature ivy.

Unless there are huge areas dying off, I wouldn't be too worried  image

Ivy is what's wrong with it, dig the roots up and plant something else :-)

Hey Lou - if your feet have recovered from the marathon, you could always nip along and give Barnstar a hand with it...image

I quite like ivy, but it has to be managed in a more confined garden. If you have room to let it have free reign, it's a great habitat for all sorts of creatures, especially birds. image

My neighbour let ivy run riot for 10 years - the horror. I don't trust it now unless it's in a pot image
