But, in the faint hope it should be there, does anyone know what this might be? It's kind of mysteriously crept up on me in the last couple of weeks, unnoticed until today, hiding under a honeysuckle...

    Honestly I am so rubbish at flower identification and read with wonder the ease with which others identify stuff I have never heard of. But, I think I know this one, so excited and I hope I'm right, I think it is an Evening Primrose.

    Probably not and I shall return to silent admiration of others so I'd wait for those others if I was you.

  • Thanks so much herbaceous - looking at this image below from Google, the flowers and leaf markings are exactly the same, so I reckon you can pat yourself on the back! :)

  • the scent should be quite heady in the evenings and it will self seed prolifically - transplanted seedlings need lots of water to get them over the move.
