 my foxglove has this beautiful lily type flower on the top can anyone shed any light on this for me

Sheila, try searching for threads on "fasciation" which is what this oddity is. The plant cells can't quite make up their minds whether they are supposed to be petals or leaves so you get these odd formations. Yours looks lovely!
