I've seen a few of these documentaries/programmes Logan. Desperately sad story, and eating disorders weren't widely talked about or treated seriously. I'd like to think if she was around today she'd have got more help.
I still find it hard to listen to her beautiful voice now without feeling a lump in my throat.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thankyou Fairygirl,i agree I feel so sad?
And also how could she get hold of illegal medication in the 80s or before then?
There were plenty of irresponsible/unscrupulous people around back then and prescription etc wasn't as well regulated and monitored as it is now.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks Dove,i understand now.
When you consider the more recent death of Michael Jackson, the availability of all sorts of dubious 'medicines' isn't confined to the sixties and seventies. The people supplying these pills and potions are the real problem, sadly.
Frightening when you consider that many of them are also qualified doctors.

The songs that she was singing was about her that's why she sang them so well
The supply of "medicines" in the world of showbiz is nothing new.
Just look at Judy Garland, they had her popping pills as a teenager.
Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice, love to listen to the songs but it's sad to watch footage of her singing when you can clearly see the toll that anorexia was taking on her physically.
I haven't seen the programme, but to assume every part of the content must be true because her brother contributed to it isn't necessarily true. Unless he commissioned the programme I very much doubt he had editorial control over it.
It's very rare for any programme to have access to all the facts, or to be totally unbiased in the presentatation of the facts they do have. From the programmes I have seen she does seem to have had a pretty rough time of it.
