sticky white stuff on branches

I have a fruit tree and have noticed some white sticky stuff on the branches. It looks bubbly, what is it?

Can you post a photo Lynn? If not, have a look at wooly aphid:

However, if it looks bubbly, it might be "cuckoo spit" which is harmless:
