Broccoli as an ornamental flower

On GW last night Monty showed his purple sprouting broccoli which he had accidentally allowed to flower. It looked very good! I am tempted to try growing it as an ornamental plant. Ant thoughts?

I'd rather eat the broccoli image

Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
  • I have been mixing my veg in borders. The problem i found with kales, psb, cabbages etc is that they are a magnet for pests year round! cabbage white butterfly in summer and pigeons in winter... A barricade of netting doesn't look too ornamental! ?

But the bees love the flowers and they do look good. Maybe dot a few plants around the borders? That's my plan for this year. Under netting in the veg patch and spares in the borders. They can be cropped as normal, just forget to clear them...

On a pretty veg bolting side note, salad leaves like mustard and rocket have dainty flowers and lettuce makes an impressive tower.

  • I like butterflies, but I don't like Broccoli, so they are welcome to it!

  • The caterpillars and their poo are a bit less attractive...
