Foxgloves and Honesty

Flowerlover3Flowerlover3 Posts: 219

I was late sowing these last year, August I think. I potted them in 9cm pots and then the biggest ones I potted on into larger pots. This spring I planted the largest out and have foxgloves flowering now but some are still in 9cm pots and consequently are still small but look healthy. I am thinking of potting them on in late summer in the hope that they will flower next year, will this work or have they had it? Some of the honesty is quite large but hasn't flowered, will they last and flower next year?

Depriving plants may make them flower the third year instead of the second. I think if you just plant then in the soil now, you will get better plants than pot growing , and better flowers next year. If you dont have space where you want them , any spare bit of veg patch, even shaded,  will do.

Thanks fidgetbones, I was worried that if I give them more space too soon they might flower later this year, you don't think that will happen?

I think its too late for them to flower this year from seedlings. Its about time to put seed in for flowering next year.

Yes and I don't know whether to sow them or not, if the plants I've got flower next year I'll have more than enough but if they don't I'll kick myself for not sowing some more.
