Problems with germination

Last year had amazing crops of Chiogio beetroot, Kale nigra.  The seeds are still in "use by" date, had 3 beets germinate, and washed away by rain, not one single Kale seed, I direct sowed same as last year. Also had James Wong Cucamelon seeds in propagater in kitchen window, 2 other vareties of cucumber germinated fine, NOT one of the cucamelons, anyone else had this problem?

I've sowed Beetroot direct into my veg bed and none of them have germinated ( so far, after over a month), and did a separate sowing in modules in the greenhouse and only have 2 seedlings to show for it.

I mosty grow flowers and have found germination a bit hit and miss this year.

My French beans were better though 6 plants compared to last years measly one.

I have 4 cucamelon plants on the go, started in the conservatory and now growing out in the greenhouse. James Wong seeds purchased for daughter last year, she grew 8.

I binned them at the end of the season but have since found out on this forum that they are perenial so will leave them this year and see how well they overwinter in the UK.

  • I had a packet of Unwins "Burpless" cucumbers and not one has germinated, I have grown cucumbers in the past so don't know what has caused this. The seeds were well in date and packaged correctly

On a plus note my Runner beans germinated ok and are now in the ground, Tomatoes ok as well.

    Hi all

i must admit I have had a good deal of luck this year as apart from radishes all of my veg seed has been planted in modules and then when ready in the garden

I have found module planting much easier and have also been able to plan with consecutive planting so I have plants ready for the gaps

keep trying and you will get your reward

    see my pictures

    happy gardening

    Hello

I had an excellent crop of carrots (Autumn King) last year, this year i sowed the same variety with 2000 seeds in the pack and only 6 or so germinated. So i hoed them out and resowed another 2000 seeds this time only 2 have germinated.

That means no carrot for us this year

Still no beetroot or Kale weird! Peas all doing OK though, I usually grow Autumn King or Early Nates, last year I grew them in one of those green bag things, had a few carrotts but not very big.  Not had any luck up till now with either leaks or carrotts.  Mind you, in our last garden, not a thing germinated, not even the Runner beans in the greenhouse!

    hi all

planted chogia beetroot, paublo also along with pak choi, turnips and swedes on 6th & 7th June

Module planting has been very good for me htis year and i will bring these on until they are ready to move into position in the garden.

I will transfer all in to cold frame this weedend to prevent them getting to leggy in the green house
