Best way to get rid of Creeping Cinquefoil?

Hi. My lawn is beginning to get overrun by this weed. 

Can someone tell me the best way to deal with it? Am I best using a weed killer (which one is best), or should I dig the patches of grass up and reseed?

i am less than a novice when it comes to gardening.

    Hi Alan. No picture has appeared. You can get rid of this pest with Verdone but it will take more than one treatment.. Regular raking /scarifying of the lawn will help to weaken it but it will take some time to get rid of it.

    They have long taproots, digging out is nigh impossible in flower beds, let alone lawns

    A weedkiller suitable for lawns is the only way.
