i have a couple of cacti, succulents ('jade plants'), Christmas cactus and a castor oil plant. Would John Innes No 2 be suitable rather than a peat based compost ?
Well I risked it today and re potted it. I used a much larger pot with shingle in the bottom. I gave the plant a soak and the hardest part was getting the old pot off... OMG it was tight..
Finally I unwound the roots that were tightly packed around the inside of the pot and I useda combo of the original compost plus 50% grow bag compost.. Probably wrong but I did not have houseplant compost.. I will see how it goes, if it doesn't pick up I will change to house plant compost but how much difference is it...
I am gong to look for Orchid compost before messing with those and one is in full bloom currently so I will leave well enough alone for the time being...
I have been told to propagate new orchid plantlets I need something called Kiki paste, a kind of rooting paste. Not the easiest thing to find...Thanks anyway for your reply..

I'd fluff it up witb some general purpose compost for those succulents of yours. It tends to set like concrete no2 when its been watered.
Add extra grit for cacti too.
Thank you. I've got both in the (potting) garage so I can get busy this morning.

I am thinking of re potting a large palm Dracenia or something.. and also a couple of Orchids no idea what to use either...?? Ideas please..
Can't help with the Dracenia but Orchids need specific 'compost' which looks more like bark chippings to me ! I ordered a small bag of it from Amazon.
