Clematis in pots

I have two clematis flammula and was wondering whether it would be ok to plant them in pots to scramble up an old apple tree and a porch

Thanks, I'm just not sure where I want them so figured growing them in pots at least for this year to see if I like them in that position and they are happy
Clematis flammula is Mediterranean origin, Southern Europe, Northern African, and is best grown dry.
Lovely plant with good perfume when treated rough and not overfed or watered. Keep your pots dry in Winter when the plants are dormant.
Much better plant is x triternata rubro-marginata, ( flammula crossed with viticella ), much hardier and tougher.
Just my opinion.
i've layered one this year, how long do they take to root, i don't want to disturb it with impatience like i usually do?
