Garden center Compost?

Is it normal practice to build up established borders each year with garden center compost. I've been asked this question , I'm not sure how to answer as I only put spent compost post back into my borders. I use compost when plant ing .
But other than that I don't scatter the compost in borders willy nilly .
If anything scatter granular food around existing plants / shrubs .
What do others do?

I'm only learning about this myself granma but the "wise ones" seem to be of the opinion that MPC breaks down too easily to be of any benefit in beds. My raised beds are just dust and the suspicion is that that's why. I've topped them up with a mixture of topsoil and chicken poo with just a wee taste of MPC. When I win the lottery I'll use composted horse manure as it seems to be the gold standard.
I really must start doing the lottery!

I find spent mp compost improves the structure of my clay soil but I doubt that it adds much else
I agree with B3,t they also sell soil improvers
