A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Hi, I'm not great on shrubs but The close up in no. 2 looks a bit like a daphne Odoro Rebecca I planted in my garden late last year and the other close up in no. 4, the flower looks a bit like a Philadelphus/mock orange to me. Someone more knowledgeable will probably come along soon and put me right!

Hi there. The top two pictures are definitely of weigela. The second two pictures of the same plant could be Spiraea. Not too sure about your third shrub but it looks very familiar. If it comes up to the surface of my grey matter I'll get back on that one. image

    Hi there!

    1) Weigela florida 'Variegata'

    2) Spiraea 'Vanhouttei' (I think)

    3) is herbaceous, I think - Aruncus dioicus maybe?

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Re Liriodendron's post, it suddenly brought Astilbe into my head. Its the fact that it has pink flowers in summer that made me think that. If you look at astilbe online you might be able to either confirm or rule it out. Thank you Liriodendron for opening that door in my brain image

I think 3) is a meadowsweet, Filipendula, of some sort.

  • Thanks all for the replies.  I love this forum!  I think you're right about the 2 shrubs and will go and do some more detailed research for the last one.  So great to have some leads to go on- thank you. Kat
