What's the best mix of compost & sand I can use for Aloe Vera plants. They will be kept indoors.

Thanks Phillppa for your suggestion I was told they liked a dry mix as their roots get damaged easily & to use half sand with half compost but wondered about grit also. Maybe I should keep looking online for more suggestions but thanks...
