Tall/climbing plant suggestions

Following on from a comment on another thread, I was wondering if anyone has any interesting suggestions for some tall or climbing plants to go against the left hand wall in this photo? It is a north-facing wall. There is probably about 30cm next to it that never gets sun, but during the summer it gets a fair bit after noon. In the winter its all a bit more shaded.

I'd quite like a mix of some lovely bright summer plants, alongside some foliage to take us through the winter. I believe we have mostly chalky soil, with some loam.

I just this week planted a hydrangea at the end. And had been thinking some climbing roses. But I'd be interested to hear some suggestions from more experienced people - I don't know enough yet to be able to be very inventive in ideas!

Thank you!

I'd smother it in clematis Montana, rambling roses, flowering quince, cotoneaster,  wisteria, other species clematis.

Climbing Rose Graham Thomas will grow in a shady position. This is a lovely yellow rose that flowers repeatedly and has a gorgeous scent.

  • I definitely want a Montana in the garden - but I think I'm going to keep it for either the far wall (it needs prettifying) or growing onto the new shed.

Thanks for the rose suggestion, it sounds like a lovely one!
