I would let it get to around 4" / 10cm before even thinking of cutting it. You should take no more than a third of the overall height off at any one time. You can lower the cut over a period of weeks. Give it a chance to get established and leave your 'normal' height cut a little longer this year and certainly if we have a drought this will also help it.
