Is this a Hornet

Hope someone can help me, I have just found this in the shed it is over 1" long. I think it could be a Hornet of some kind,

    Keep an eye on the shed as it may be looking for somewhere to nest or it may have just been just collecting wood to build a nest in another location.

    Fortunately for us hornets are relatively peaceful next to other members of the wasp family image

    We had a hornets nest in our garage a couple of years ago, they never bothered us, This year we are lucky to have bees nesting near our patio doors!

    SOMEHOW A BEE EATER CATCHING AND KILLING A BEE DOESN'T HAVE THE SHUDDER FACTOR BUT THEY HAVE NESTED AND RAISED YOUNG THIS YEAR IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE.
