The pom pom one is buddleja globosa

The Buddleja x weyerana  are a cross between the orange globosa and the more usual davidii. It flowers later in the season than davidii and will repeat flower up to the frosts if you dead head. it is easy to propagate by soft cuttings in June.

Its not a new plant, I have been growing it for 25 years. its nice with a clematis tangutica growing through it. They can both be cut down early in the year.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge fidgetbones - I have always just called it mum's pom-pom buddleia because she gave me the cuttings for the lovely orange flowered plants - and yes they were easy to propagate.  The Hayloft catalogue I received today said this weyerlana Sungold was a new plant - perhaps new to them is what they meant.

  • I have a B. weyeriana, which I have had for many years.

It has grown into a bush of about 12 feet but can be controlled by cutting it back, as you would with B. davidii, and is just easy to grow.

It is not as popular with butterflies but it has a longer flowering season and is evergreen.
