Rose Black spot

Mark56Mark56 Posts: 1,653

Really suffering with black spot this spring, although admittedly one of my David Austin roses aren't as bad as the others. I've removed as many leaves as I can that are infected and have sprayed before (but I'm not sure it's the best spray). With all this rain in the SE I'm a bit limited.

Any suggestions for removing the dreaded fungus? Good sprays you can recommend? Worst comes to worst shall I just cut them right back?

Cheers friends!

Got plenty of buds on there but many of them haven't opened even though they've been present for quite a while, I know that's one of the unwanted symptoms image

My roses are also suffering Mark, I've managed to take just infected leaves from one of my standard roses (not entirely sure if this will work forever!) but another I couldn't rescue at all and lopped it right back image.

Going to follow this post for ideas of less drastic measures!

Spray the ground as well, and under the leaves, put a thick mulch around them to stop it jumping up onto leaves from ground:)

If you going to spray do it at intervals and don't stop even when it's better:)

This regime works and is best for the bees, you spray weekly but change the spray,

Week One -Dilute 1 tablespoons Sulphur of Flowers per litre of water

Week Two - 1 teaspoon of Bicarbonate of soda and a drop of washing up liquid. per litre of water

Week Three - 100ml of semi skimmed milk per litre of water

Also feed your rose with rose or tomato food with seaweed.

I brought Bayer Fungus Fighter Plus from Wilko (fairly expensive but worth it for the rose flowers all summer long) & it seems to be doing the job so far. Will continue to spray at intervals. Nightly, to reduce harm to pollinators but luckily only just getting buds.
