Hellebore care
in Plants
This has been the first year i have grown hellebores and they have been lovely. New green foliage is growing at the top which i think i need to leave and cut next time it starts to flower. Is that right and what do i do about the flowers that are there now , do i just leave them or do i need to cut them off. It is a beautiful plant and want to make sure i do it justice, thanking you.

I do little to nothing with my hellebores and they thrive. The odd time I cut the bigger tatty leaves off to tidy them up but apart from that I leave them to get on with it.
They're great self seeders so always check around the base for free plants. I have loads this year. It's been a good year for them.
I cut back the bigger leaves when they are in flower, makes the flowers look better and does the plant no harm. Like plant pauper says you can get loads of free plants as the seed everywhere..brilliant. I pot on the seedlings and give them to friends and neighbours. Everyone loves free plants
I cut off all the old leaves in late winter before flowers and new growth begins. I, like plant pauper, leave the flowers and love all the little seedlings that arrive. I keep waiting for that never seen before colour and flower formation to arrive. Ho hum getting cobwebs while I wait
Thanks , i will keep a lookout for seedlings , as i am doing my garden from scratch and have very few plants in the garden so seedlings will be useful. I do have lots of things in pots to plant out and lots of bedding plants as there will be lots of spare space until things grow.
