    Are you sure it's this one? It's not a climber.

    I hack bits of this one when I feel like it.

    I like to coppice anything in late winter/early spring, just as growth starts. But lots of things are done earlier or later because it won't all fit in at the right time. Most plants and pretty forgiving, unless they cost more than about £12, then they snuff it very willingly.

    Thanks for that swift reply.  Yes, absolutely definitely involucrata var. ledebourii.  It's not climbing, just going straight up the wall of the house, through the rose. Even had sparrows nesting in it!  Astonishingly vigorous - maybe the rain.  Thank you very much for the advice - I shall tidy it up now and cut it down after the winter.

    I'd like mine to be more like that but the soil is poor and the competition fierce
