Is this normal?

My sweetpea stems are very angular, hairy and stiff plus purple leaves, is the normal or is there a problem?

Cold causes the discolouration moslgo. They should recover, but if you can keep them sheltered from any cold winds or exposure for a little while that will help them. The weather's been a bit up and down recently and that isn't great for new, young plants.

The stems do stiffen as they grow so make sure to tie them in as soon as you can while they're pliable to avoid breakage. I speak from experience.
