South African Garden

We are redesigning our south facing front yard - having the drive done. In the process I have more planting area, and the very old poorly maintained shrubs are gone. Yipeeeeimage

Clean slate so to speak, but as its  a nice  hot spot in summer, Im wanting to plant an African/ Mediterranean theme. I have some Canna's and red hot pokers, lavender, thyme and rosemary. Any other suggestions? I going for reasonable maintnance free zone.

Snap! I also have a South African section!  I grow the Kniophia Limpopo (I think that's the red hot poker!).  One of the best growing plants I have is Crocosima Lucifer, that grows like wild fire! I also have a couple of Salvas - Hot Lips (think thats it's name) reminds my other half of his childhood in the Western Cape so we got one of those - also grows really well where we are.  Asters also are great ground cover and super easy to grow! image  I have attempted Protea (Grandiflora) and failed so far but I'm determined to get the right growing conditions -  that's my ultimate goal!!!!

Thank you so much for your awesome ideas ?? Missy I totally agree sooo many plants soooo little time and I have realised that there is no one acre front gardenimage I have recently seen some protea plants for sale - might be well worth trying!  I have red hot pokers, will be trying some canna's as well. The drive will be finnished Monday. Need to fill up the new beds with some soil etc and then I can start plantingimage

...you might not like roses, but if you do then 'Leah Tutu' is very nice...
