I have harvested my broad beans and left the roots in the ground to add nitrogen. What can I plant in this plot next? Also, when my last spuds are lifted is there a crop that I can plant in this bed over winter?

The rule I learned was Legs, Cabs, Roots, Pots. In other words, after your legumes (beans and peas) you would plant cabbages and other brassicas, then the next crop on that spot would be root veg and the onion family and finally, to finish the cycle, potatoes. So, in theory, your potato plot should now be looking for some legumes to go into it.
Thanks waterbutts! I have heard some conflicting answers but yours makes sense.
