In a previous life I'd have been up before dawn to dance and sing as the sun rose on the first day of summer.
If we're quoting May songs....
Winter time has gone and past-o, Summer time has come at last-o. We shall sing and dance the day And follow the 'obby 'oss that brings the May.
Chorus:So, Hail! Hail! The First of May-o! For it is the first summer’s day-o! Cast you cares and fears away, Drink to the old 'oss on the First of May!
Bluebells they have started to ring-o, And true love, it is the thing-o. Love on any other day Is never quite the same as on the First of May!
Never let it come to pass-o We should fail to raise a glass-o! Unto those now gone away And left us the 'obby 'oss that brings the May!
"You must wake and call me early, call me early, Mother dear,
Tomorrow'll be the happiest time of all the glad New Year...
...For I'm to be Queen o'the May, Mother, I'm to be Queen o'the May!"
Will that do, Joyce? Not a song, but recited by my grandmother (who lived in a time when well brought up girls had to learn huge chunks of poetry and recite them for relatives), by my father (loudly, trying to wake me & my sister up for school), by me (ditto for my children), and now, sometimes, by my son and daughter when they want to annoy their OH's. (It's Tennyson, I believe.)
Rain or drizzle forecast here too...
"The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life." Rabindranath Tagore
Morning all, afternoon Pat read back but no coffee drank yet so brain not functioning!
Lovely day out the window, so far Off for a drive to papa wombles house and the village I grew up in lunch in the OTHER pub! Due to the new owners of 'the Low' thinking they don't need the locals and have turned it into a posh pub!
Hubby is dreading being a passenger in my car but by the time if folded him small enough, he won't be able to wriggle!
Got a quick garden question...just planted a miscanthus sinensis morning light....
Is "the Low" the one I met Dove in? It was lovely, with nooky drinking areas and beer in barrels in the tap room. We had sandwiches in chunky bread with lots of filling. Has it changed hands since?
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

If he really wants one he'll have to get up early next Mayday
He's probably gone back to bed and is snoring sweetly - I'm sure he'd prefer sleep to a May Queen mantle

Does anyone know when I need to prune it please?
Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Morning all, I did go back to bed, and I did get back to sleep.
Wonky, I'd cut that back. Look to see if there's new growth, if so , just above that to tidy up last year's growth, if not to about 30cm.
