Too late to prune a pheasant bush?

Hello,
i am a total novice needing advice. I didn't get round to pruning my 7 foot high pheasant bush this March. Now it has fresh leave growth and an ugly 10" of old dead tip at the end of each stem.
would I damage it by pruning this old growth off now?
