Allium stems short...why?

Hi, everyone.  I'm hoping you can help me.  I planted pinball wizard allium last fall. They are now emerging.  The plant leaves are humongous and healthy, but the stems are barely 6 inches tall (uh...is that 15cm?).  The flower heads are forming (though not opened yet).  Does anyone know what might cause stunted stem growth in new allium?  I was under the impression that this variety should have long, long stems.  Thanks!

Mine are short too but I expect them to grow much more before the flower opens. They seem to be the last bit of the plant to push up through the leaves. Good job too - rabbits grazed off my leaves!

Hi, I grow a few varieties of Alliums and from experience, the bud looks like its emerging for a long time, and just grows up and up slowly but surely. I think your alliums will grow as tall as your expecting, they just take their time!

Hope they look great for you!
