Productive soft fruit plot

Hi, can anyone help me with what I can plant in space between my current and gooseberry bushes. Preferably something that also yields a crop.

We have spring daffs between our redcurrant, blackcurrant, gooseberries and blueberries for a bit of cheerful spring colour.   There are also strawberry plants in their second and 3rd year in those beds and giving good crops.   You could grow early salads or late oriental pak choi and co (best sown after mid July or they bolt) that won't get in the way when harvesting your gooseberries.

  • I grow parsley and coriander around my fruit bushes. I sow the parsley on the shady side, so that the shadow of the bushes will stop the soil from drying out too much. Salad crops can be grown the gaps too, or you could try chives.

Creeping Thyme is brilliant for growing amongst other things. It comes in red or purple, is amazing for pollinators and you can eat it. Plus, it suppresses all weeds and is slow growing. A truly versatile plant.
