Grasses

Hello forum,

In autumn last year I bought some (very discounted) grasses in my garden center and planted them. They looked good when i got them but wonder now if they are coming back? I cut them down in January but no sign of life so far. Do I wait or start again? I am gardening on London Clay.

Do you know which grass it is?

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Monty was cutting bank his Miscanthus a few weeks ago, so I did mine then. If you leave it too late, you can't cut right back without damaging the new shoots. Mine is beginning to sprout again, but very slowly. I'd give it a couple more weeks and then dig it up if there are no fresh green shoits poking through by then.

If they were Pennisetums you can probably wave goodbyeimage Often sold as 'perennials', but they aren't reliable ones here.

    Hi everyone,

They are Pennisetums, 2 varieties one for full sun and another one for semi shade. Will wait a bit longer and report back in a few weeks. Happy to wait...hopefully they come back image they didnt have a lot of time to establish though as they went in the ground late.

Thanks for the tips on how to take care of them as wellimage

Have a great week. Me off to work now!

    Cheers,

    Hi everyone,

Not sure if you still get an update - the grasses didn't make it at all unfortunately so leaving them a bit longer didn't help. Thanks for the feedback and advice. I learned a lotimage

Verdun. Does that apply to crocosmia and red hot poker as well? Sorry to hijack Lie and sorry about your grass :(
