Multiple headed tulips

Anne124Anne124 Posts: 1

I planted 50 T. Hemisphere last autumn in several pots. There is a great deal of variation in colour. The catalogue showed pink single headed tulips. I have several multiple headed tulips in the same pot as single headed ones. The colours vary from pink though pink with palest yellow streaks to yellow with pink streaks. The foliage looks normally healthy

Any explanation for this?

    According to this link, they are supposed to have variation:

    http://www.shrubs.co.uk/tulip-hemishere-xl-tr-13692-p.asp

    "This lovely new Tulip  has white and pink flowers on sturdy stems
    Sometimes flowers emerge white with a dash of hot pink stripes, freckles, and mottling;
    sometimes they are pink with a dash of white. And sometimes they are so evenly broken it's impossible to decide which colour is dominant."

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
