patio circle

hi all.we are new to the the world of gardening and this forum.we are currently transforming a very neglected garden and want to build a circular patio (one of those kits).can we lay the slabs on a bed of grit sand only or would you recommend cementing them ?.it will be about 8ft in diameter.thankyou.

    Hello there. Putting down a patio is a big job. You need to make good foundations for it if you want it to last. Skimping on the preparation will mean having to do it all over again in a year or two.

    Thankyou .theres a lot of rubble like stone,brick,breeze blocks .you name it.would this make a good base broken up ?. It'd also give me an idea on getting rid of it .

    If you follow the link above you will find a list of materials that will provide a good result. The sub base, stated, is made of MOT1 which is a uniformly sized type of hardcore. 

    Using odd sized pieces of rubbish as a foundation will be more time consuming in the end than using new, uniform, appropriate materials.
