Smoking yew and conifers!!

I noticed the other morning that there seemed to be "smoke" coming out of our yew tree and then later the same effect from a neighbouring conifer. Are these trees releasing spores or is it powdery mould that is blowing from them?  Will it affect surrounding  plants and trees?  Does anyone know? Thanks.
