Daffodils havent break through turf?
Has any come a cross this before? I planted some out last year about November. Not many have shown, After inspecting them they have hit the turf and concertinaed ( the turf is mostly moss ) the daffs where king Edward I think, large bulbs 3-4inch planted with about 6 - 8 inch of soil / turf on top.

I thought daffs would come through anything
In the sticks near Peterborough
so did I
November is a little late to plant daffodils as they need some time to make a decent root stock. Optimum planting time is mid August until early October, but as nutcutlet has said, daffodils usually grow through anything.
In my case, the leaves of the daffodils show every year but neither buds nor flowers follow! Does any one know the cause? ????
Hi Jo46. One common cause of daffodils lack of flowering is that they are not planted deeply enough. They need to be planted at least two and a half times in depth the size of the bulb. Another common cause is that the leaves are not allowed to die down naturally in the Spring and are either just cut off or tied in knots. This doesn't allow the leaves to feed up the bulb for next years growth.
Hi Jo. I planted quit a few te-ta-te in autumn and like your daffs they have come up blind (I think that's the term used) The pot did get flooded at one point till I lifted it up onto some bricks but others have not done very well either!
I've plant daffodils in December without any problems, they just flowered a little bit later. I got some in pots now planted in December doing very well. Oh well always next year.
Thanks, all for your replies. I think that they may not be planted deeply enough. I'll need to investigate but, on another day. We have just had some heavy hailstones after enjoying a warm and pleasant morning! Indeed, there is always next year so by then I hope the problem will be solved and that there will be no more 'blind daffodils'. Thanks again for your contributions.
