    I see 2 gable walls, I'm guessing the big one is yours, and the smaller one is your neighbour's. 

    I'd just say , I'm sure you know already, you need the wall owners permission before you stick trellis or wires on it, even if it faces into your garden.

    Don't want to fall out with the new neighbours.

    Nice plot, let's see photos as you make progress.

    Thanks for your advice.

    I like the idea of the climbers and the fruit trees. Thanks for letting me know about getting permission for the trellis it's something I wouldn't have thought of. Both walls you can see are garage walls, one of them is mine so hopefully it won't cause to much of a problem.

    I'm going to get a some quotes for the patio and go from there.

    If I go with the chunky wooden/ sleeper borders how wide would you suggest I make them? I.e. Excluding the width of the wood, how much soil space should I have in the middle. It's hard to envisage how wide they need to be to leave plenty of room to plant up but not so wide that they look out of place.
