Have I chosen a duff hydrangea or am I just being impatient?

So I bought a hydrangea paniculata grandiflora from the garden centre, as I have an established mophead that looks great and had a big gap next to it. I've planted out the new hydrangea and have been waiting for it to 'get going', however it is literally a bunch of twigs. No sign of buds or anything really....however my mophead has got loads of buds and new leaves opening up now.

Will the paniculata get there? When I bought it I just assumed it had been pruned and would start to show signs of life soon. But now I'm not so sure! If anyone knows that would be great (and safe me at least an hour every day as I stare at it willingly through the window).

Thanks!

Mine are just starting to show signs of life down here in Devon. My ugly mopheads are in full swing though.

    I'm sure it'll be fine.

It's a bit early for paniculata country. They'll kick off properly in a few weeks. If it's a youngish plant it'll take a few years to fully get going, and then look out. Wonderful displays every year.

  • Ah great thanks both, cant wait to see it in a few years image
