Lumpy grass after turfing

Hi.

I had my garden professionally landscaped last Autumn which included laying about 150m2 of turf. The turf was well watered by the Devon weather and has grown really well. It hasn't been walked on until recently when I mowed it for the first time at the highest level.

My problem is that the grass feels lumpy all over when walked on. I wonder if it needs rolling, and whether that is standard practice on recently laid turf? I'm not sure whether the soil was sufficiently prepared prior to turfing. I've never had turf laid before and I don't really know what to expect but this seems disappointing.

Should I ask the landscape gardener to come back to sort it?

Yep.  It's supposed to be flat.  If it ain't, he should put it right.

I should have thought that with the mild winter we had (especially, I assume, in the SW) it's got its roots well established by now and would withstand a roller.  Get it done now while the soil's still soft.
