Spirea Help!!

I 'inherited' a large mature pink spirea from previous owners, which was overgrown and more resembled bamboo as all the plant had gone to canes, before Xmas i cut it down to a foot or so, a bit of kill or cure, well i think i killed it, its the only thing that hasn't got any new growth  at all on it. Should i just get rid and buy something else, or can miracles happen?

It should come back. with Spirea usually directly after they have flowered. You prune one in three of the old canes right down to the ground. Any remaining canes prune them back by a third. With this one may be wait until next year

the smaller ones like golden princess and goldflame I used to gather the whole lot up like a pony tail and chop the lot. When you release it , you'll have a nice rounded shape.
