Advice on filling new raised veg bed

I'm having a go at vegetable growing for the 1st time.  I've built my new raised bed 6' x 3' x 14'' and filled with ready mixed veg compost.  Nothing planted yet, but should I tread over the compost to squash out some air and then top up, or should I leave it as it is and start planting?

Leave it as it is. Most veg like soil that is loose and not compacted.

The whole point of a raised bed is that you never tread on it. Ever. It should be a width that you can stretch from either side to the middle to cultivate and plant out.

This makes it unsuitable for sprouts which like a compacted soil but fine for everything else.

Thanks everyone.  I knew you weren't supposed to tread on it once you'd started to use it.  I just wasn't sure what to do at the start.

Wish me luck! (shame about the sprouts, but there's plenty of other stuff I can grow!)
