The two ornamental Ribes I grow are R.odoratum and R.sanguineum. R.odoratum berries are edible and can be used to make a jam or something [nothing special eaten off the bush]. R.sanguineum berries are not poisonous but don't taste good and are very seedy, definitely not for the gourmet.
Further to this post there is another garden site that offers a "vitamin hedge "consisting of all safe edible bushes .both ribes are included, that's why I was checking and blueberry, also recurrent (the latter of which my 6 year old g.grandauvhter consumed straight from the bush once a week until they are all gone)No recurrent jelly this year !
So it's useful to know that I can plant one of the ribes safely anyway. The birds have my small crab apples tree and surrounding dldsrbertues
