Planting under an atlas cedar

We've got an atlas cedar in the bottom right hand corner of our west facing garden. The lowest branch is approx 12 ft off the ground so the ground gets loads of sun most of the day. There's currently a summer house under the tree but it's falling apart so will be taken down. I'm thinking of putting a seat in that corner surrounded by some shrubs-preferably white flowering. What plants would be happy with the sun but competing with the tree roots and water?

Not sure about shrubs under there, but what about white cyclamen?
